| The three-turreted gate type differs greatly
from the other coins minted for Christian IV. The tower symbolizes the fort of Dansborg
and they were the first of all the coins to be minted in the history of the
colony. Right
from the very start small change will have been needed for minor payments for which the
large trading coins and the smaller Indian silver fanams were too much. The building of
the fort of Dansborg was started in December 1620 but already in October 1620 we hear
about duty revenue from the town of Tranquebar. 1/2 kas, lead, UBJ 55, KM 48, Sieg 1, The variations is published in "Uno Barner Jensen, Trankebarmønter 1620-1845, Variantkatalog 2001". |
